Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What should I wear? Can I change at your studio?

A: Wear comfortable exercise clothes that move with you without restricting you. Too loose clothing might be distracting to you and prevent the instructor from assessing your alignment. It might also get caught in the tracks or springs on the equipment. For the same reason, please pull your hair back so it doesn't get in the way. We recommend non-slip socks. If you want to change clothes before/after class, we have a large bathroom right outside the studio.

Q: Do I need to bring anything to class?

A: Bring your curiosity and an open mind. We have mats, but please bring a water bottle. If you are uncomfortable working out without shoes, please bring a pair of clean flexible sneakers.

Q: I haven't worked out in a long time, and I have never done Pilates before. Do I need to prepare?

A: No preparation needed, we will work with you whatever stage of life you are in. Our goal is to help you become an expert in your own body. We will start gently, and increase the challenge when you are ready for it.

Q: I am not at all flexible. I don't think I can do any of the Pilates exercises.

A: This is why you need to come! We will work on mobility and flexibility and the exercises will be modified to fit your body. Our goal is for you to achieve a balanced, flexible, and strong body. It is never too late.

Q: How often do I need to come?

A: Come as often as you can. Once or twice a week is a great start. We can create a home program to help you keep your practice going. We recommend that you start with private sessions, since this is when you get the full attention of the instructor and learn the fastest.

Q: I have some movement restriction and pain, and I don't know where to start. I don't want to go to a gym. Can you help me?

A: This might be the perfect place for you to begin. With the permission of your doctor, we can start a gentle practice for you. The studio is very private, and you can feel comfortable moving without having to worry about your surroundings. Our goal is to be great listeners and make sure that we take the right steps toward greater well-being for you.

Q: Is Pilates for men too?

A: Absolutely! Many of our most dedicated students are men. The session will be tailored to your body and goals. Joseph Pilates himself was a boxer and gymnast, and he developed the exercises to suit everyone.

Q: What if I need to cancel an appointment?

A: Our cancellation policy is 24 hours in advance for all classes for any reason. Please text us or email movebeyondpilates@gmail.com.
