Philosophy

At Move Beyond Pilates, we believe that every body is different and has different needs. We ask questions about your injury and movement history, your present habits, and your goals for the long term. We assess movement patterns, taking into account any previous injury or pain before creating a movement practice that suits your body and your goals. We want to support you whether your goal might be to enhance your athletic performance, become a stronger dancer, keep up with your grandchildren, or even just to learn to move with less pain.

Our philosophy follows Gray Cook's tagline "First move well, then move often". Working out or exercising might burn calories, improve your cardiovascular system, and make some of your muscles stronger, but it doesn't in itself create better function and balance in your body. Poor alignment and posture only get worse as we put the body under stress and can cause dysfunction, pain, wear, tear, and injury. Our goal is to get you on the right track to improve alignment, breathing, and your movement skills both in everyday activities and when you exercise. What we do in the studio can help create lasting change and better habits outside of the studio. When you move well, you will want to move more often!

We want to see you leave the studio with a greater sense of well-being, a more efficient and graceful movement pattern, better alignment, and a stronger more flexible body. And of course, we want you to love moving! Click on the pictures below to learn more about our equipment and methods.
